Daily while working in a video store, I get asked what my favorite movie is. This for me is such a hard question because I have seen so many movies over the years. My first thought was to narrow it down by genre. What are my favorite comedies? Dramas? Action movies? Should I do the horror category? (my opinion, you seen one horror movie you have seen them all...I stopped watching horrors after The Blairwitch Project) I think I could write a blog a genre really, now that I think about it...Here it goes, in no particular order.
Gibby's Top 5 Drama's
(why did I start with drama? well, its my favorite type. What other type of genre can really generate great acting and an emotional connection?)
1. Pay it Forward - What a gem of a movie. Kevin Spacey did a great job as well as Haley Joel Osment. I think the premise of the story drew me in and made me think that this type of "Utopian idea" could actually work.
2. Memento - Very good movie. If your watching it for the first time, you must watch it all the way through. The first of its kind when it was released because it showed the plot backwards.
3. Silence of the Lambs - Well, the first suspense movie that I watched. It is still classic today as when it was released. Isn't that right "Clarice" (Hannibal Lector's voice)
4. The Sixth Sense - another Haley Joel Oment movie makes my top 5? Yepp. This classic suspense people really freaked you out when Haley says "I see dead people."
5. I Am Sam - One of my favorite actors, Sean Penn, stars in this movie and plays the part to a "T". If you haven't watched this movie, you must. It really puts people with disabilities and their struggles in perspective.
5.5 Reign over Me - Sorry I couldn't take this one out. OK..top 6 - This one was Adam Sandlers gem. Not a comedy at all. Just a person struggling with death and how to live life without loved ones. Tears swell up still when I see this movie.
Honorable mentions: In America, One Hour Photo, Good Will Hunting, 21 Grams
What is your top five in dramas? Difficult huh? Even a better question, where were you when you watched your top five? I remember when I saw all 5...er 6 of these. Leave comments or posts below. Comedies tomorrow.

Ooh your page is lemony-limey summery!
ReplyDeleteI don't watch a lot of movies (surprise!) and I HATE when customers ask me if a movie we have is good. I couldn't make a fave list hardly, yet alone a genre list! And if I went back and watched some of these movies everyone hypes as soooo good, sometimes I can't get into them because they are so hyped up. But I can see why you picked what you did.
I've only seen Sixth Sense and One Hour Photo on your list. I remember Sixth Sense being good. I didn't really like One Hour Photo? It was weird to me as I remember.
Reign didn't do so good at the box office.
You'll have to get Paul to read your blog for his comments! =)
